We Own The Night

I've been wanting to see this for awhile and finally got around to it. We Own The Night is the story of a man, Bobby, who is trying to make a decent living in the way he wants to live. Both his father and his brother work for the NYPD, which Bobby respects but doesn't see to be a fitting life for himself. Though it goes unspoken, Bobby's father and brother seem to disagree and really wish that he had chosen to go into the police force.

The friends Bobby makes and the job he holds are slightly shady; he works for a club in Brooklyn (?), which is a good enough job but leads to some associations with some shady characters.

The whole deal ends up evolving into the NYPD coming after drug dealers in the club, Bobby's family being targets by Bobby's colleagues who does even know he is family at first, etc. It's basically a typical film of the genre but manages to keep a fairly unique storyline and hold your interest.

Every time I watch a movie like this I know there is going to be some kind of twist, and this movie is no different. Around the middle of the movie I thought I figured out the twist and it seemed so obvious that I began to lose interest in the movie just a little bit but continued to watch. Then, you find out the twist is something entirely different which was quite a surprise to be though maybe not as satisfying or logical...

All in all, not a GREAT movie, but not a bad movie. Not a bad choice of a movie to watch if you already have some interest in it. If you want or wanted to see it, I recommend watching it. If you've never heard of it before, it's probably best to keep it that way.
