How NOT To Make Slush

Well it was one of those days... I went to Wal*Mart and saw a snow cone maker. I wanted to get it but it was kind of expensive so I didnt. Instead I just bought the snow cone mix and decided that I would try to make one myself without the maker. That proved a failure. Instead I decided to try to make slush. I really thought it would work.

The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior

If you are a fan of the popular movie series "The Mummy" then you should be pretty familiar with the 2002 spin off "The Scorpion King". The Scorpion King (original) wasn't great, but it surely wasn't horrible. It provided an entertaining action movie similar to The Mummy, but with a little less of a great storyline. The Scorpion King 2 is a completely different film.

This movie is absolutely nothing like any of the mummy films. The only similarity is the fact that it partially takes place in a desert-like location, and that one of the characters is supposedly a younger version of the scorpion king, Mathayus. Apart from this it is less of an action movie and more like a cheap 80s adventure movie with bad special effects. Imagine a strange combination of like The Odyssey (1997 with Armand Assante) and Conan. However, where these movies succeed, Scorpion King 2 fails. The bad acting and poorly written script are so off that it almost seems as if the creators were trying hard to create a poor movie, only you know that wasn't the case since the movie is riding on the Scorpion King/Mummy franchise. The bad special effects are also inexcusable, even for a straight to DVD movie. Some scenes are incorrectly rendered and the effects do not even appear on the screen. Other scenes are very unnatural and unrealistic. The difference here is that the conan movies came out in the 80s. The Odyssey came out in the mid 90s. Now it is 2008, and movies with bad, old special effects are similar not acceptable from a major studio such as Universal. If this movie had come out 10 or 15 years ago and had a few name actors, it would surely be a hit. For now, it is amusing and entertaining at best, but surely not what you'll be looking for in the continuation of the Scorpion King saga.

Rating:
Only for die-hard viewers, or those who enjoy watching "bad" movies.

Son of Rambow

Son Of Rambow tells the story of two school boys. Lee Carter is a troublemaker and Will Proudfoot is a very proper kid who never misbehaves. One day, Lee approaches Will in the hallway and knocks over a tank getting both of them in trouble. Will, having never been in trouble before knows nothing about what happens. Lee tells him the teachers will torture him and it will be the most painful experience ever, but Lee is willing to take the blame if Will is willing to pay him back. Lee decides that the best way for Will to pay him back is to help him make a movie which he dreams when it is complete will be aired on the BBC television program "Screen Test". The only problem is that Will's religion (which he doesn't really agree with, though his family is very strict about it) prohibits him from watching television or playing in such a manner with other boys. Will must sneak out as the boys secretly make there movie piece by piece, but it doesn't stay secret for long as kids at school begin to catch on and want a part of the action, and Will's parents become suspicious of his strange behavior.

This is a great, funny movie that has something for the whole family!

Rating:
Somewhere between a 3 and a 4.
